The pencils come sharpened. FriXion pencil lead is a thermo sensitive lead that can be erased by rubbing. Interestingly, erased color reappears at temperatures below 14 Degree F (-10 Degree C). A freezer is cold enough to make this happen. Due to the thermo sensitive nature of FriXion lead, we advise against using it for mailings, or leaving the written materials in hot cars or in environments that expose them to a lot of friction. Children using these pencils should be supervised. The pencils should not be used on surfaces other than paper. Due to the softness of the lead, sharpening the pencils to a very sharp point may make them break easily. Drawing or writing quickly with strong pressure may result in faded color.
